True Crime Diary

Essay film

HD Video / Still images, 04:00 min, 2024

My neighbors were out for a walk that day when they met a girl on a bike. She asked for directions, and they kindly showed her the way. Later, she was found murdered in a deserted area, just a week before summer vacation was supposed to begin.

In the video, I return to the place where I grew up and reconstruct the path the girl might have taken over 20 years ago. The essay reflects on "True Crime" as a metaphor for security and threats, control and the unknown. It also raises questions about places and what happens when safe spaces transform into crime scenes.
